Visoko: Pyramid of the Moon Without Landmines

12/20/2009 - Visoko – Demining team from “Detector”, Banja Luka, has completed the first phase of demining in Pljesevica (Pyramid of the Moon), a hill where the frontline between Visoko and Cekrekcija was located. Members of Civil Protection visited the site and signed the technical acceptance of 48,000 square metres of cleared land.

“We have practiced all three methods of work in the cleared site, manual work, work with demining machine and work with trained dogs and no UXO were found. We found two mines and four UXO on the site we are currently working on”, said the Operations Officer, Zoran Maricic.

The demining of 106,000 square metres of land is envisaged within this project. So far 48,000 square meters have already been cleared.
As Mr. Maricic said, another site with a surface area of 26,000 square metres will be cleared by the end of next week.

“If weather conditions allow we will start with the third phase once the second phase is finished, which is three kilometres far from this location”, said Maricic.
Dragan Bozickovic, Assistant Director of Civil Protection, said that approximately 32 million square metres of land in the Municipality of Visoko is contaminated by landmines, which is 14 percent of the total territory.

“Civil protection prepared a list of priority sites for demining. Locations planned for next year are Lisovo and Radovlja. Most of contaminated area is located along the former frontlines: Vratnica, Cekrekcija, Vrela, Vlajcici, Vidovici, Tusnjici, Lisova and Radovlja”, said Bozickovic.
