1.5 Million Euros for Demining BiH – EU – IPA


12/13/2009 - Sarajevo – European Union, through IPA funds, will allocate 1.5 million Euros for the project “Demining and Technical Survey”, which will be used to demine 80 locations across Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The association for mine action “STOP Mine”, Pale, signed a contract on 11 December with a delegation of the European Union in BiH for the implementation of this project. The contract is worth 1,670,000 Euros, it was reported today by this association.

It was reported that the Government of Brcko District will provide the remaining funds of 170,000 Euros. The project should last for two years.

The project started immediately after the contract was signed through the technical survey of 7.5 hectares of risk area within the Municipality of Stolac. 50 deminers, divided into 6 teams, will be engaged on this project. A demining machine for land preparation and trained mine detection dog teams will be also be used.

The association for mine action “STOP Mine” has implemented two projects over the last four years that were funded by the European Union, amounting to seven million BAM.
Together will local demining organisations, a total of four million square metres of risk land covering 115 locations in 38 municipalities across Bosnia and Herzegovina have been mine cleared, it was reported.
